What is the Hiatus Project?
The Hiatus Project is a live text chat held every Friday at 9pm EST during the SGU mid season Hiatus.
What does that mean exactly?
It means that every Friday at 9pm EST, a group of fans of Stargate Universe gather at our chat room and discuss a weekly topic, beginning with a weekly discussion of each episode that has aired and running into more topical “theme weeks” once the ten aired episodes have been discussed.
Theme Weeks?
A theme week will be exactly that, a weekly chat around a specific theme under the SGU umbrella – this could be anything from a character of the week discussion, a discussion on where you would like the season’s unresolved plot-lines to go, what you would like to see the crew encounter on the Destiny or off world.
Is that all that happens?
Another activity that runs alongside the Hiatus Project is the SGUDG* (SGU Drinking Game) this began on twitter while the episodes were airing and we have adopted it (with a few modifications) for our chats – each week when a keyword is said (relating to the episode of the week or weekly topic) there will be an instruction to drink, when that happens… you drink.
*Don’t worry if you don’t wish to take part, its entirely optional, many people unwind at the end of the week with an alcoholic drink, others just use water – it’s a great deal of fun whether you are taking part or just watching.
I’m a big fan of SGU, a lot of my friends aren’t – can they come along?
Myself and the team of Hiatus Project organisers are big (BIG) fans of SGU, as such we are creating a chat environment that is positive and in support of the show, its cast and its crew – as a rule anybody is welcome however we have ZERO tolerance for disruptive elements or negativity for negativity’s sake – your friends are welcome to come and maybe they will gain a new perspective on the show, but if they are disruptive they will find themselves being banned.
Sounds cool, do you have anything special planned?
As a matter of fact we do, we have a number of special guests planned, these guests will be members of the shows cast and/or crew who have agreed (or are in the process of agreeing) to attend a chat / some of the chats and talk to the fans, we’ll have more information for you about these guest appearances as they happen.
Why did you decide to do this?
I’m a huge fan of Stargate, Sci-Fi and TV in General – in the run up to SGU I found myself getting more and more excited about the show and interested in becoming a more active supporter, as such I opted to create a blog where I could review each episode.
These reviews gained a favourable following and as the mid season hiatus approached, the review readers & I began to talk about what we were doing to do for the shows mid season break, from there the Hiatus Project was born.
You spoke about a team, who else is involved?
The Hiatus Project team are all people from twitter, I’m Terry (@Colonel_Ez), Brian (@Nunchux), Karrie (@Lefembat2), Sherry (@Malibunextyear), Bruce (@Blbjr71) are the other members of the team.
We are all involved in planning for and moderating the chats each week, Sherry handles guest bookings and the SGUDG, making sure everything goes off without a hitch.
Each of these people can be found in the chats and on twitter at some point throughout the day, every one of them more than willing to answer any questions you may have about Hiatus Project.
